December 30: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)
let me take this opportunity to compliment Chipotle on its chips. all loyal readers will remember that i have frequently commented on the freshness and saltiness of the chips. well, in recent days and weeks, they've been great! just the right amount of salt and always fresh.

December 29: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)
i decided to have a couple more burritos this year just to give myself a safety net in the event of a legal challenge to the legitimacy of the record (remember the bol from January?)...
in the meantime, burritoman fan Greg Y. sends the following tanka (not a haiku, which is 5-7-5; a tanka is 5-7-5-7-7) (or so he says; for all i know, he's making it up as he goes along):
One hundred fifty
They say "You are what you eat"
If so, Burritoman
might paraphrase Kennedy,
like, "Ich bin ein burrito."
nice work, Greg. i changed one word to make sure it fit the profile of a tanka, though -- i think "i.e." is, in fact, two syllables, as you suggested.

rumor has it that KCTV 5 wants me to post my picture on the blog. sorry, but i don't know how to post photographs! i'm afraid you'll be stuck with this description: i'm tall, dark-haired, rakishly handsome...
December 21: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)
what a day. first of all, loyal burritoman fan Dave R. brought his digital video camera to work today and recorded not only a statement from me but from four other people about the import of today's landmark burrito.
then he took it to Chipotle and actually taped me as i ate the burrito. this latter recording occurred while a Kansas City Star reporter took pictures for a feature that should be appearing later this week.
also, it appears that KCTV 5 will have a brief mention of the 150 burritos tonight.
stay tuned for links to these articles.
in the meantime, today's burrito was pretty good. it was juicy and spicy -- just like i likes it -- and the chips were appropriately salted. plus, Heidi S. bought it for me in honor of the quest, and as we all know, the best burritos are free.
later, the manager came over and gave me coupons for two free burritos. she's new; i have seen her only a couple of times before. we shall henceforth refer to her as the New Manager.

December 16: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)
Greg Y. has graced us with another burrito haiku:
Magic number: two
Like half steak and half chicken
Very symmetric
today's penultimate burrito was eaten at our office's annual holiday luncheon. for whatever reason, i usually prefer to bring my own food to those events. a number of people questioned why i was eating a burrito instead of ham and potatoes, and it reminded me of a funny story....
my sister was teaching at the time at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, which serves a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago's near southwest side. toward the holidays, one of her students asked if white people actually ate turkey, stuffing, and the other sorts of things they see on TV. my sister replied in the affirmative, which surprised her students. when she asked what they ate, they replied, "tamales." so: remember that different people with different traditions eat different things for their holiday meals. there's nothing wrong with a Christmas burrito!
in the meantime, the 150th burrito will likely be eaten on Tuesday, December 21 at the usual location. see you all there!

i had another haiku from Greg Y. but i accidentally deleted it. sorry, Greg. more glory in another post. in the meantime, i heard a great story from a friend today about how that individual once wrote a haiku about how one of my friend's teachers was really hot. it ended with the tremendous final line:
i'm hot for teacher
i suppose it is five syllables.
if my friend buys me enough burritos, i won't reveal my friend's identity or the target of the poem to the world.

trivia answer, supplied by loyal burritoman reader Adam M.: Steve Hackett.
December 10: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)
enjoyed today's lunch with burritoman fan Kris K. and her friends Lauren S. and Alicia E. they ate tacos -- all of them! i was appalled. don't they know they could have had a burrito?
another haiku from Greg Y.:
Matt inhales salsa
it damn near lit him on fire
and then there were four...
Greg writes: "I borrowed the last line from a Genesis album, "And Then There Were Three." Trivia question: what 4th band member left the group after their previous album, "Wind and Wuthering", which, in all likelihood, inspired this album's name? (And no, it is not Peter Gabriel. He was already long gone.)"
if you know, and if you want some recognition, drop me an e-mail.

learned a valuable lesson today: do not, under any circumstances, accidentally aspirate the hot salsa. it will damn near light you on fire.

December 5: chicken, extra rice, hot salsa (95th & Quivira, Overland Park, Kansas)
on Sunday, a post-soccer burrito was the perfect fix after running around full speed for an hour. plus, the chicken was really good and the rice was very moist.
that said, it was a little odd being served by a large guy with muscular arms who was wearing a "chipotle girl" t-shirt. seriously.

i realized today that many, if not most, of the people at Chipotle weren't there when i started this blog. the Artistic Manager, the Fast Cashier, the Slow Burrito Maker... none of them are around anymore. i wonder where they've gone?
this was my first December burrito, and it was a good one. i have 7 burritos left before i reach my goal and 29 days to do it, including Christmas. assuming that i won't be eating a burrito while i'm out of town for the holidays, i expect that gives me about 24 days to eat 7 burritos.
can he do it? ladies and gentlemen, i believe he can.
