April 30: steak, extra rice, hot salsa (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

today's burrito was eaten at my desk. it was good. the end.

no, not the end. i have to relate to you an e-mail from a devoted Burritoman fan:

(to the tune of 'Piano Man')

please post some news, you're the Burritoman.
please post some news today
'cause we're all in the mood to hear all about your food
like what were the chips like today....

oh la la la de de da
la la de de daaaa....da dum...

now chips with no salt really get me down
it's like watching TV with no sound,
and the good barbacoa, like a girl from Samoa,
is marbled with fat all around.

(yelling)
and the slow cashier's taking his freaking time
as the businessmen slowly walk in
and I wonder if maybe, if i say "hey, baby,"
i might get some extra chicken.

oh la la la de de da
la la de de daaaa....da dum...

(repeat chorus, loudly)

April 27: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

away for eight days... how did i cope? i'm slacking. time to pick up the pace a bit.

today's burrito was good. even better was eating it in the Kansas spring under a blue sky.

April 19: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

i have now eaten one burrito for every week in 2004. and yet there are many, many more weeks in the year.

today's burrito was good. it was prefaced by a nice walk to the burrito store, followed by an equally long wait in the line. why is it so crowded at 11:30 a.m.? i do not understand.

April 16: steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

the steak looked so juicy today that i couldn't resist a heaping spoonful of juicy, dripping meat instead of the chicken.

today i have eaten 51 burritos. 51 is my lucky number. remember those Scholastic book order forms? well, when i was in fourth grade, we received an order and there were two extra books in it. our teacher asked us to guess numbers between 1 and 100, and the closest person would win the book. i chose 51, and that was the number. not having a lucky number, i decided 51 was my lucky number. since then, i have noticed it whenever it appears.

April 15: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

today i reached the fifty burrito milestone. i did it alone on a warm but overcast day. i sat outdoors, watching the cars go by and contemplating the zen of Chipotle.

what is the sound of one chip clapping?

... same as it ever was.

April 14: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

we faxed our order in today. it was great, except that they messed up my burrito and gave me beans. i do not like beans.

they remade it for me. let me tell you: i had no idea they had a separate assembly line in the back for faxed orders. pretty sweet.

i used extra salt today to liven up the burrito love. it was good stuff.

i am almost one third of the way there. but my pace has dropped significantly from my previous 200-burrito pace. i think i better kick it up a notch.

no chips today. i just didn't feel hungry enough to eat a stuffed burrito and a bowl of chips. but i didn't need it. the burritomaker hooked me up with massive scoops of meat, and the steak was so well-flavored i can hardly tell you. seriously, my mouth is watering again just thinking about it. it was unbelievably good.

i am on track to significantly exceed my burrito goal.

April 6: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

again, too busy to write. but hooray for a burrito stacked with burrito-y goodness. i'm telling you, it was unbelievable.

oh, and the Melana thing: April Fools' joke. come on, people.

shout out to Niki M., who tells me that she and her co-workers went burritoing last week and had a blast.

no time to write; but the burrito was good. best part: my favorite burritomaker is back. she was transferred to the Olathe outfit for a while and is filling in for a week. she's by far the best i've seen -- plus, she knows me and knows just how i like my burritos. welcome back!

April 1: 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, extra rice, hot salsa, chips (College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas)

it's gorgeous out today, so we walked to get our burrito fix. it was good; i used a little extra salt on the perfectly cooked meat. the burrito maker was a little slow, and the guy dishing out the meat was a little stingy about it. but the chips were salty, which was nice.

however, the unquestionably best part of today's burrito: we saw Melana, from "Joe Average." for those of you reading this from out of town, Melana is a former KC Chiefs cheerleader who still spends some time here in town. she was a few people behind us in line and, when i approached her, signed my burrito with the same Sharpie they use to write "S" or "C" on the burritos at the end of the line. she was really sweet and very cute -- a little shorter than i expected, i guess, but so be it!
